Newsletter #17

Hey!

Welcome to the latest Wax and Beans newsletter. Below you can check out what's happening in April and what glorious stuff occurred over the past few weeks.

We're currently surrounded by sunshine and Record Store Day lists! We're hoping that the sunshine will last longer than a few days, the music sounds better, the iced coffees really hit the spot (add syrup if required!!!) and the huge RSD list feels less daunting with the sun gleaming across the table as we try to decipher the quantities to order for each title.

Edit, it's now Saturday and it's freezing!

As always, we've included our favourite pre-order for the month below, but you can always check out our full list of pre-orders here. We suggest you bookmark it for easy access... don't want you missing out on a belter ;)

Just a word of warning... they do move quickly!

As always, we do want to hear from you too! If you've got any suggestions for a pre-order we don't have listed, message us here. You can also chat to us about anything else using that same link and over on social media.

Our most anticipated pre-order this month is:

Seahorses - Do It Yourself

After John Squire left The Stone Roses, he formed The Seahorses in 1996 together with Stuart Fletcher, Chris Helme and Andy Watts. The year after they released their debut album Do It Yourself, which was produced by Tony Visconti. Visconti had his first hit with T. Rex' “Ride A White Swan” and was involved in many David Bowie productions. The album was well received and entered the UK Album Charts at #2 and received a Platinum status. It featured three popular singles: “Love Is The Law”, “Blinded By The Sun” and “Love Me And Leave Me”. The latter was Liam Gallagher's first song writing credit. Their success resulted in support slots with The Rolling Stones, U2 and Oasis.

Do It Yourself is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2022

We're ready!

PRE ORDER HERE

In other news.... the list is out!

RSD 2022 is just a few record spins away and we need your help! We will do our best to get the stock you want, but we need to know what you fancy so let us know by completing this form. We don't have long, our orders with the distributors have to be in in the next couple of weeks, so get clicking folks.

If you want to see everything available, checkout our online list here.

If you want to print a copy of the list, use this link here.

As we perkily chipped on about it above, we thought that we'd furnish you with a few details about the day. On Saturday 23rd April, the team will be arriving at the shop around 6am and we'll fire up the coffee machine and ovens so that we can hopefully make the last couple of hours in the queue as pleasant as possible (you never know, this warm weather might still be here, or back - fingers crossed!)

Fresh coffees / hot chocs, bacon butties (we also have veggie options) will be available ahead of 8am when we can start serving for RSD. Lou is working hard to input all SKU's so the barcode scanner should make it super quick this year. Dennis is on picking & bagging duty (he literally doesn't know yet, as he only usually 'works' Mon - Fri) so expect to see him working harder than he ever has before! The rest of the team will look after you to ensure that you have a fab RSD.

For anyone not able to come to the shop on the day, all remaining titles will be available online from Friday 29th at 6pm.

Also on Record Store Day...

We're delighted to be welcoming The Heavy North who will be appearing in store to play a free stripped back acoustic set to celebrate the release of their debut album.

The band will be on stage at 1pm and will sign copies of Electric Soul Machine with a beer afterwards.

We'd like to say thanks to everyone who was involved with two ace in stores that we hosted earlier this month. The labels, management, reps, artists and everyone who came along.

Ricky Warwick played a little acoustic set ahead of his Manchester gig at the Academy. Henry and Andy from Sea Girls swung by to play a few faves and some cracking new songs from their new album, Homesick. Congrats to them for a top 5 album in the official charts.

Calling all locals who love a pre loved bargain - we have over 25,000 due in the shop over the next few weeks! That's right, 25,000 singles - motown, northern soul, classic rock, old skool hippity hoppity, pop etc - and all only £1 each. You can't say we don't have reasonable prices ;)

The first 20k have already landed in the shop and we'll be refreshing the stock each week, so come and see us soon (and regularly) to top up your singles stash. Check out the full video here.

We also just wanted to say a huge congrats to The Met Live Music and Arts Theatre for a sell out first show for their new series in the Emerging Showcase events that they hosted. We all went across to catch Clouds and Errors supporting Urban Theory (two very talented local bands). The venue, sound, lighting, music and overall atmosphere was incredible. You can check out more here. We'e hoping to get a blog up about this soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that one.

Don't forget... work is well underway on our new accommodation - Suite Dreams (completion expected end of April '22 - fat chance! - Ed). You can follow the renovation process on our Instagram page @suitedreamsbury

Check out our events page (we continually add to it) to see what's on and book your tickets. April is looking great....

Local hero Ste Milly is back at Beansies on 29th April. Mixing covers and exceptional original tracks, Milly always delivers us a great set with top humour too. No pressure mate! Tickets are available here

but before that..

Saturday 2nd April - Adventures Of Salvador. Bury's Finest Post Punk outfit, Adventures Of Salvador finally play Wax and Beans. Buy tickets to see them here and we'll see you at 7pm when the doors open!

Luna (aka Dave) usually picks her favourite rekkid of the moment, but to be honest, she's a bit too hot and we can't budge her of the cool leather sofa in the staff room to go and have a paw through the racks. So for one month only, Lou gets to pick!

Eddie Piller's - British Mod Sounds Of The 60's reminds her of all the tunes that her dad used to play in the car. A Saab with a tape deck!

Grab your copy here now.

Until next month, enjoy Easter, the sun (!) - all the incredible music that we've yet to discover, and Record Store Day x
