Yusef Lateef needs little introduction: a multi-instrumentalist and jazz visionary who blended global sounds with spiritual depth.
'Lost in Sound' is one of his earlier titles, and his only record for the Charlie Parker label.
It was recorded in New York - August 14, 1961 - 65 years ago.
Lateef focuses solely on tenor saxophone here as he moved away from hard-bop toward more exploratory horizons.
The sides feature a lesser-known but remarkably cohesive quintet: Vincent Pitts (trumpet), John Harman (piano), Ray McKinny (bass), and Clifford Jarvis or George Scott (drums).
The eight-track set blends soulful swing with post-bop, highlighted by Pitts’ originals “Soul Blues” and “Trudy’s Delight,” alongside a vibrant take on Charlie Parker’s “Dexterity.” A collectors edition exclusively for Record Store Day 2026.
