Crackerjack! is Vee VV's long anticipated debut album.
"In 2017, the last thing on the minds of Vee VV was becoming their own tribute band.
After their initial comeback gigs, the decision to integrate new technologies and make a decisive reset was pursued and, in 2020, resulted in the release of a 12” single, ‘Ugly Freedom TOKA Remix’.
The track not only spanned the post-punk-tech-house divide, but it was a statement of intent, the coming together of like minds exploring the breadth of possibilities.
Vee VV had never been satisfied with going through the motions but increasingly focussed on gradually replacing their old set. Before any more collaborations (although the unmistakeable trumpet of ex-Hulmite Kevin Davy, can be heard on ‘Feel the Squeeze’) there was a need to nail down their own style over the length of a bona fide album. That album, their debut album, is ‘Crackerjack!’
The result is a raucous mix of rolling basslines and deeply worked grooves that slowly morph into grand, psychedelic walls of sound, perfectly setting the backdrop for the snarling, emotive vocal and resulting in an album that’s both brilliantly deep and festooned with hooks."
