‘Evering Road’ marks a bold and exciting new chapter for Tom Grennan, blasting back with a sophomore album shot through with raw emotion and searing honesty. Named after the East London address Tom shared with his then-girlfriend, it’s a hub of love, heartbreak and redemption. Set to include soaring first single ‘This Is The Place’, the soulful, introspective ‘Oh Please’ and now ‘Amen’, a gospel-inspired awakening as Tom roars, “I don’t go to church, but Amen!”
Speaking about ‘Amen’, Tom said:
“Amen is a song about being in an internal battle, whether that's with yourself, something or someone else. In my case it was battling with my relationship and making decisions on what I actually wanted. I’m not a religious man, but we all believe and find our release in something! Be it family, friendship, freedom, football – Amen!!”
Packed with defiant songs to define the new decade and torch listeners’ hearts along the way, ‘Evering Road’ also serves a deeply reflective and personal body of work. Speaking of the reformative and empowering writing experience, Tom hopes that showing his scars will help others who have endured similar emotional hardships:
“This album has been such a therapeutic experience, it has helped me through one of the toughest times of my life. Evering Road documents a transitional stage for me, where I felt I’ve learnt so much and grown into a new man, moving myself into a new calm and positive space. Gospel and soul have been a huge influence on me during this album, for me it’s so emotional yet uplifting, and I wanted to translate this DNA through my music. I’m just BUZZING for people to hear it, so hopefully it can be a lifeboat of sorts for at least one person.”
‘Evering Road’ was produced by Dan Grech (Liam Gallagher, Lana Del Rey), Eg White (Adele, Amy Winehouse, Sam Smith), Mark Ralph (Hot Chip, Plan B), Charlie Hugall (Florence + the Machine, Ed Sheeran), Lostboy (Anne Marie) and Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse). Dan Grech also mixed ‘Lighting Matches’, Tom’s breakthrough album that cemented him as one of the UK’s most fascinating and exciting new artists, and one of the Top Ten best-selling debuts of 2018. A UK Top Five record, ‘Lighting Matches’ has amassed over a quarter of a billion streams, seen sold out shows at The Royal Albert Hall, Brixton Academy and won over thousands of fans at festivals including Reading And Leeds, Isle Of Wight, TRNSMT, Latitude and a host of other events.
Despite the unique changes and setbacks that have swept the world over 2020, Tom’s boundless enthusiasm for performance and connection has prevailed. As well as featuring on ‘Summer In The City’, the lead track from Fraser T Smith’s new album, and performing an exclusive live-streamed gig at The Holy Trinity Morgan Church in London, Tom recently took to Newcastle’s Virgin Money Unity Arena for a landmark show at the UK’s first ever socially distanced venue.
