This Is The Moment! - Sings And Plays, is a 1958 album from Kenny Dorham featuring his first public vocal performances. Originally released on the great Riverside label, the album also marks the recording debut of pianist Cedar Walton. Kenny Dorham is one of the all time great jazz trumpeters. His stellar catalogue across the best jazz labels of the time were seemingly under-appreciated for years, however in recent times his work has been acknowledged at its rightful standard. Starting out, he played in the big bands of Lionel Hampton, Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, and Mercer Ellington and the quintet of Charlie Parker. As well as featuring as a sideman in some of the best bands of the day, Dorham led his own groups. Recorded at Reeves Sound Studio in New York between July 7th and August 15th 1958, this is a unique recording in a super catalogue. The band are scintillating, with Curtis Fuller on Trombone, Cedar Walton on Piano, Sam Jones on Bass and drum duties shared between Charlie Persip and G.T. Hogan.
