Staff Recommendations

Owner

Ben

Ben loves to keep it random! Jungle, drum and bass, indie or hip hop is usually on heavy rotation. Spinning some Dylan also always makes him smile.

Music started for Ben as a kid watching his dad tape his records and meticulously and neatly replicating the track list with a black pen. Always black (it's funny what he remembers!) Next it was get them playing in the car to the beach (he grew up in Cyprus). It was the 80's music was crucial, they had no access to English language channels on the telly box.

The 90s arrived and so did jungle, next up, he's back to vinyl, buying decks and huge Jamo speakers. You were set up in a box room, not a club, Ben! Then came Hip Hop, urban music really consumed most of this listening, although indie was always bubbling away in the background as you couldn't escape it in the pub jukeboxes.

Nowadays he's continually spinning anything and everything after being sent music from labels, and recommendations following conversations with folk in store and online.

OWNER

Louise

Ben's partner Louise tends to have her head in a laptop cracking on with all things admin and finance, as well as her full-time job elsewhere. But when she can break away, she loves a good bit of pop, a decent chunk of rock, some indie and PLENTY of Meat Loaf.

In fact, the entire 285k population of Bolton will have heard her singing Meat Loaf whilst driving around town with her dad doing errands every weekend. She really was a daddy's girl!

Barista & all-round-helper-outer

Avis

Ben's mum Avis was supposed to be enjoying her life in retirement, but quickly got roped into a shift or two a week at the shop (as well as being our wonderful cleaner for Suite Dreams). Avis loves old time classics, as well as some current time bangers!

BIG Lathums fan!

CHEF & BARISTA

Claire

Claire loves alternative indie and electro rock. Some of her favourite bands include Kasabian, Muse and Apollo Junction. But topping the list of favourites right now are the "Now" complications.

Manager

Jon

Jon has over 30 years experience in hospitality, with 26 years in his previous job!

When it comes to music, live is a big part of where Jon likes to spend his spare time, with both tour shows and festivals filling his time away from the shop.

Faves are Jamie XX - In Waves, The Reytons - Ballad of a Bystander, and the Chase & Status catalogue.

Barista / Front of House

Mia

Bodybuilder and fashion graduate, red bull obsessed.

Fave coffee: extra hot skinny latte with sugar free caramel

Fave band: Courteeners.

Most embarrassing gig: I went to watch courteeners at Brixton academy and got hit on the head with a 2-pint cup and almost got knocked unconscious and to make it worse it was joked about for months and then happened in the exact same venue watching Courteeners a year later.

Front of house

Maria

We've known Maria since we first opened Beansies in 2019. Since then she's completed a Uni course and back in Bury as part of our lovely team.

Faves include Charli XCX, Lorde, Lily Allen Lana and Fontaines D.C.

Kaya

Kaya is the world biggest Florence and the machine fan (self proclaimed). She also loves Ethel Cain, Black Country, New Road, and a bit of Simon and Garfunkel.

A fun fact is that she has played the violin since she was 3.

Her best memory of a gig was getting absolutely drenched in a downpour during Boygenius at the Piece Hall.

And for my recs I’ll go for Ceremonials by Florence, Ants from up there by BCNR, Aladdin Sane by Bowie, Sound of Silver by LCD Remind me tomorrow by Sharon Van Etten.

Versatile / Adaptable team member

Shaun

Shaun was ace whilst a little younger when he completed a weeks work experience with us.

He's back, working alongside the team as a weekend offender.

His choice of tunes range from Radiohead to house to metal. We love that.

Shop Mascot / Chief cutie

Luna

Spends her time between the shop, warehouse and Burrs Country park with walks courtesy of Uncle Mick.

Features heavily on the shops instagram page and stories.

Favourite tune - Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me!

Adorable.
