As always, we've included our favourite pre-order for the month below, but you can always check out our full list of pre-orders here. We suggest you bookmark it for easy access... don't want you missing out on a good 'un ;)

Just a word of warning... they do move quickly!

As always, we do want to hear from you too! If you've got any suggestions for a pre-order we don't have listed, message us here. You can also chat to us about anything else over on social media.

It's always an impossible task to pick just one pre-order each month, but we've gone with this mucho anticipated reissue:

Vieux Farka Touré & Khruangbin - Ali

Ali Farka Touré trekked the world, bringing his beloved Malian music to the masses. Dubbed “the African John Lee Hooker,” one could hear strong connections between the two; both employed a bluesy style of play with gritty textures that elicit calm and fury in equal measure. While the influence of Black blues music prevailed, Touré created a West African blend of 'desert blues' that garnered Grammy awards and widespread reverence.

The Cribs swung by Wax and Beans to sign copies of their three reissued albums on vinyl and CD. The support was HUGE, as folk turned up to meet the band and have records, CDs, posted and flyers signed. Congrats to the band who charted this weekend at no. 1, 3 and 4 in the indie charts and all three albums charted in the top 10 of the Official Charts too!

We have signed copies The Cribs, Men's Needs... and The New Fellas on vinyl and Deluxe CD available via the link below

Music related School Project!

Customer and Friend of the shop, Mr Strachan (David to us!) wanted to deliver a project to his class about one of his favourite Jazz singers, Ella Fitzgerald. In the words of David:

"Year Two have had a wonderful week learning about the famous Jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. I took my record player into class, and we learnt all about how records and radio were the ways that people listened to music when she was popular. From this, we spent some time creating our own vinyl covers and vinyls which look great!

We learnt all about her life and her music. The children were very interested in how she was a pioneer in scatting - a singing technique where you imitate musical instruments, usually at pace. Year Two also found it very interesting at how Ella Fitzgerald helped break racial segregation at music venues in the 1950s and 1960s, refusing to play at a venue if White people and Black people were sat apart.

We've also been learning about big bands that Ella Fitzgerald sang with. The children learnt about the different instruments that made up the band and what sound each instrument made. The class really enjoyed listening to some of Ella's songs, and we had a go at singing "It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing"."

It has really impressed Mr Strachan how the class have been completely absorbed in this topic and how much interest and amazement they have taken from the week. Well done Year Two. 🙂

Here are some samples of the accompanying artwork Year Two created. We think there is some real talent in the group, do you agree?

Here's a few of the upcoming events that we have confirmed and in the calendar.

We managed to pull Luna (aka Dave) away from her busy call schedule (she probably sleeps for 21 hours a day, which is one more than a lion!) to choose her pick this month. She's been listening to Working Men's Club - Fear Fear (white and pink vinyl) non stop (in between the sleeping).

EDIT, EDIT, EDIT!!!

It turns out she's not the only one loving it, you've managed to buy all our stock! We did say stock moves fast!! So, we'll sneak a substitute in whilst she's sleeping (again!)

black midi - HellFire (red vinyl)

Until next time folks, keep discovering new music, keep supporting indie stores, enjoy the festival season (we got to Blue Dot at Jodrell Bank and they took it to the next level this year) and see you real soon.
