Newsletter #14

Hey, welcome to the latest Wax and Beans newsletter.

Doesn't time fly when you have so much amazing new music to listen to - live events and a plethora of new releases have kept our ears in sonic bliss since we last spoke.

In this newsletter we'll do a little reminiscing as well as a little forward planning!

As always, we've included our favourite pre-order for the month below, but you can always check out our full list of pre-orders here. We suggest you bookmark it for easy access... don't want you missing out on a banger ;)

Just a word of warning... they do move quick!

We do want to hear from you too! If you've got any suggestions for a pre-order we don't have listed, message us here. You can also chat to us about anything else using that same link.

Our most anticipated pre-order this month is:

The Lemonheads - It's A Shame About Ray (30th Anniversary Edition 2LP + DL Bookback)

Lemonheads’ seminal album ‘It’s A Shame About Ray’, has been lovingly reissued for it’s 30th Anniversary. The long overdue reissue includes a slew of extra material, including: an unreleased ‘My Drug Buddy’ KCRW session track from 1992 featuring Juliana Hatfield; B-sides from singles ‘It’s A Shame About Ray’ and ‘Confetti’; a track from the ‘Mrs. Robinson/Being Round’ EP; alongside demos that will be released for the first time on vinyl. This reissue celebrates their prestigious fifth album, these deluxe bookback editions feature new liner notes and unseen photos.

The Lemonheads - It's A Shame About Ray (30th Anniversary Edition 2LP + DL Bookback) - £39.99

SHOW NOW

What a packed month November was. Live events and album signings galore. Not to mention Black Friday and more nominations.

We've been shortlisted as an indie biz to receive a grant via a FedEx competition. As far as we know we're the only record store nomination so we'd love to get your vote! Multiple entries are allowed, well one per 24 hours per email address, between now and December 15th so please get voting, share and shout it from the rooftops! You can place your vote here.

Tom Hingley from Inspiral Carpets popped in and signed a tonne of records for us. Both Life (Gold vinyl) and The Beast inside (Purple 2 LP). What a top man he is. We've still got a few copies left so if you want to grab a signed copy before they're all gone, use the links above.

We were recently joined by Liverpool's much acclaimed singer-songwriter Zuzu. We were treated by a superb set and everyone flippin' loved it. You can grab a copy of her debut album here.

Local up and coming band Urban Theory left our ears ringing as they blew the roof off the building with an incredible live set from the store. The four piece indie-punk guitar band from Bury showed real gusto in their hour long show. If you fancy hearing some of the highlights, listen to our short video. If you're gutted you missed them, fear not, they're back with us this Sunday, 5th December, to headline the Tim Burgess' Vinyl Adventures day - more info below.

We've also welcomed our pals Ist Ist back into the shop to sign copies of their new album The Art of Lying. Regulars to the shop will know how much we rate this band and were buzzing to have them in store again. Top band, ace album and if you don't bag a copy here you're not one of the cool kids!

Tim Burgess' Vinyl Adventures Record Fair - December 5th

As one of our all-time favourite lead singers, we are beyond giddy to be involved in Tim Burgess' Vinyl Adventures Record Fair. For the last few years, The Charlatans‘ front-man has been hosting record fairs all across Manchester. This year however, he's gone bigger and better with a bunch of venues having live music on throughout the day. Our line-up for the day includes:

12:00 - Cold Water Swimmers

Rockit presents: 13:30 Pageant Mum; 14:30 Izzzy; 15:30 Clouds and Errors; 16:30 Granfalloon

18:00 Urban Theory

It's set to be an absolutely bangin' day, with a tonne of venues taking part, including The Deaf Institute, Gorilla, Stutter & Twitch and Freight Island.

Keep your eyes peeled as there are 500 free travel passes up for grabs meaning you can jump on and off the Metrolink visiting all the venues!

Jake Hardman - December 11th

Jake Hardman is a young pop artist from Manchester, who decided to go solo in 2019 after several years playing in local bands. With a variety of genres and instrumentation, there's a song for everyone in Hardman’s catalogue. Grab your tickets here.

Smug Roberts - Comedy Night - December 18th

For the first time ever at Wax and Beans, we'll be hosting a comedy night! Not just any comedy night, a Smug Roberts comedy night, Christmas week (ish!). Tickets are just £7.00 and you can grab yours here. Oh and, we've not a sneak peek of his act here if you fancy a listen.

On the week of Luna's first birthday, the princess herself proudly presents pop princess Zuzu as her favourite album this month. We've only a handful of copies left, so grab it here quick before they're all gone.

As 2021 draws to an end, we'd like to say a huge big thank you to all our loyal customers near and far for all the love and support we've received over the last 2.5 years since opening our doors. We are truly grateful for the success we've had and continue to have and would like to thank each and every one of you for making that happen.

As a token of our appreciation, we've set up discount code that can be used online - TAKE10. This voucher gives you 10% off any spend over £25, can be used as many time as you like and is valid until 23:30 on 31st December.

Please note: the voucher is only valid for online purchases - we have tonnes of discounts and great offers in store already, plus Ben's new haircut is a gift in itself ;)

We cannot wait to see what 2022 will bring and wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas.
