Newsletter #13

Hey, welcome to the Wax and Beans newsletter for November. Doesn't time fly when you have so much amazing new music to listen to. Live events and a plethora of new releases have kept our ears in sonic bliss since we last spoke. In this months newsletter we'll do a little reminiscing and a little forward planning!

As always, we've included our favourite pre-order for the month below, but you can always check out our full list of pre-orders here. We suggest you bookmark it for easy access... don't want you missing out on a banger ;)

Just a word of warning... they do move quick!

We do want to hear from you too! If you've got any suggestions for a pre-order we don't have listed, message us here. You can also chat to us about anything else using that same link.

Our most anticipated pre-order this month is:

The Slow Show - Still Life

The Slow Show will release their fourth studio album, their first for 3 years, entitled ‘STILL LIFE’ - via [PIAS] (Europe) and Velveteen Records (ROW) - on 4th February 2022. The four piece who first formed in Manchester, will support the release with a European Tour in February and March 2022, culminating in a hometown show at Hallé St Peters on 4th March. Lead track ‘Blinking’ is released at the end of October, a perfect taster to the new direction STILL LIFE offers. 'Still Life'. Same but different again.

Beautiful artwork to accompany what will be an undeniably beautiful record.

The Slow Show - Still Life (Coloured Vinyl) - £23.99

SHOP NOW

The next big event on the record collecting calendar is Black Friday.

Unlike traditional Black Friday where prices are slashed and there are sales galore, in the record world it works a little differently. Instead, there are a bunch of limited edition releases causing just as much furore, as people scramble to bag something special before stock runs out.

This year it drops on November 26th. This event runs like RSD and all titles are sold on a first come first served basis on the day (from 09:00) and will be available online from 08:00 on Saturday morning (27th).

There are quite a few tasty bits again on this years list, you can view them here.

As a heads up, we also plan to slash some prices on our regular stock to help that Christmas present money stretch a little further. Be warned, the reduced pricing will be short lived from Black Friday - Sunday only!

Don't miss out!

October was our busiest month yet for in store events.

Mike Peters played some tracks from The Alarms History Repeating - 40th Anniversary Anthology release. Space turned up to sign almost 200 copies of the Spiders reissue, and local artists, Sam Tomlins, Palava and Spin Klass also put on great entertainment.

Local teacher Rich called in for a brew and happened to have two 1200's under his arms so proceeded to spin some soul, funk and hip hop a week last Sunday. Our very own Loren deejayed on National Album day, as we celebrated Women In Music, before we finished the month off with Mark playing some goth, rock and creepy Halloween tunes.

If you're prepping already for Christmas - our gift cards are always here.......

BUY A GIFT CARD

Or if you're after some stocking fillers or even building your own list of 'wants', we've got some great Christmas gift ideas: we have tees, Wax and Beanies (!!), mahogany now spinning stands, record display wall frames, album cover colouring books, record cleaning kits, record bags and a variety of music related books. There's literally something for everyone no matter what the budget!

November is set to be top and we cannot wait!

Mary Shanker returns to play her second gig at the shop (although first time in the new shop). Mary was one of the first artists to perform for us almost two years ago when we first opened at our old shop. Her voice is like velvet and just beautiful. Tickets to the event on Saturday 6th November are just £6 and can be found here.

Apollo Junction are touring their second album
'All In' and as part of their record store tour, they're heading to Wax and Beans on the afternoon of Saturday 13th November. Free tickets are
here (we just need to know numbers for the day) and you can order the signed album here.

Tom Hingley is playing an acoustic set of Inspiral Carpet songs on Thursday 18th November - he'll also sign the reissues of Life and The Beast Inside for whoever comes to the gig, and for those of you who have ordered online, we'll get the albums signed for you too. Ticket and album bundles (check out the options in the drop down menu) can be found here.

Zuzu is releasing her debut album in November and will be playing in store on Friday 19th November. This is a free event, just turn up! Zu has released a few tracks so far ahead of the album launch and it's simply brilliant ear-worm pop. Signed records and CDs can be found here.

Urban Theory will be making their debut appearance at Wax and Beans on Friday 26th November. We know the lads well, they have an eclectic taste in records, and based on their purchases in store, they draw influences from some incredible artists. Tickets for the in store are here.

For the last event for us in store for November (so far!), Ist Ist will be joining us on Saturday 27th November to sign copies of their second album 'The Art of Lying' The record is available on black and cobalt blue. Head here to grab a signed copy.

Luna (Goddess) the ancient Roman personification of the moon. Diva more like! That's why we call her Dave, all the Dave's that we know are way more down to earth.

Anyway, this month Dave is back from her holiday pampering and has chosen the album that should be a part of everyone's collection, and why not the gorgeous Anniversary Edition 2LP picture disc.

Primal Scream - Screamadelica

Screamadelica was the bands third album and featured Manchester's Denise Johnson on vocals. It was the Scottish bands first commercial success and won the Mercury Music Prize in 1992.

The real boss around here is Louise. In our heart of hearts we know this! Well, Lou has got something really cool happening in the building.

A most of you know, Wax and Beans occupies both the ground and first floor of 16 Market Street. We also have access to the second floor which is currently a dumping ground for all the pre loved collections that Ben buys!!

Well, it's almost time for him to get those either sold, but most definitely shifted, as Lou has had planning permission granted for two luxury apartments on the second floor.

Called Suite Dreams (her very new Instagram account is here) the apartments will cater for folk (couples, friends and families - including the doggos) visiting Bury as a tourist destination, as well as for music fans that will be attending gigs at both The Met live music and theatre venue and Manchester Town centre (accessible by tram).

Follow the building progress (starting very soon) on her IG account but don't expect her to be funny or witty on there, she's not drunk as often as Ben ;))

Have a wonderful November, and we'll see you next month!
