Wax and Beans and RSD

26th September saw Drop 2 of 2020's Record Store Day. As always, we were inundated with loyal customers hoping to get their hands on the limited edition records.

One such loyal customer is Jarrod. He was determined to get his hands on the very limited 9 LP box set of the late, great Notorious B.I.G. If it wasn't enough for Jarrod to start queuing at 3.30am, he also dragged along his girlfriend Hannah and mate Ben.

Needless to say. they were first in line and yes, he got his hands on the prize.

Next up, is Mark. Mark walked an incredible 10 miles to secure his place in line. He left home at 1.30am and once he arrived four hours later, he joined the queue before securing his much coveted wax.

As well as our regular customers, Wax and Beans is always delighted to see new faces too. And in the few days prior to RSD Drop 2, the shop got a surprise visit from Mike Peters of The Alarm. The band had a special RSD release which flew out of the shop. Whilst visiting, he managed to make a short video, which you can see here.

We make no apologies for Ben's acting skills, we think he's a natural!

Thankfully, we don't have to wait long until the final RSD drop of 2020. It'll be taking place this Saturday, 24th October. Check out the planned releases here and make sure you get your place in line for what will be another exciting day. And if you somehow managed to miss out on RSD drop 2, check out what is still available here.

Wax and Beans and Food

When we first opened our doors in the little shop last summer, our intimate space offered vinyl and coffee. More and more people began to visit and loved the little thing that we had going - the records, the coffee, the cake, the welcoming atmosphere and sense of community and friendliness that everyone showed to each other. We wanted to be able to offer more to our customers with a food offering, but let's be honest, space was not on our side!

Since moving to our new, much bigger shop, we've installed a full commercial kitchen and have been trialling a food menu. For a few weeks now, Claire, Jodie and Gordon have done a fantastic job delivering a small menu of breakfast, brunch and lunchtime food.

Talented chef Gordon, supported by the team, will be freshly preparing and cooking regular favourites alongside some exciting specials that he'll frequently mix up to keep your taste buds tingling. We'll predominantly be using locally sourced produce, with plenty of stock making a short trip across from the world famous Bury Market.

Come and sample the menu; we can accommodate up to 30, including in the hidden treasure of our upstairs area. We also would love some feedback - tell us what you'd like to see added to it.

To top it all off, we've already been inspected and assessed by the Food Standards Agency last week, and were awarded a 5 star food hygiene rating. Wax and Beans......and now food too!

Wax and Beans and Footy

Following our shirt sponsorship of Roach Dynamos U14s, we're very proud to be sponsoring the North West Ambulance Service Men's footy team for the 2020 / 2021 season. Thanks to Andy and Matt for the opportunity to be involved. Thank you for the amazing job the Ambulance crew do, not just in 2020, but especially in 2020.

We're also super excited to be able to support the Bury FC Girls U18s team. We can't wait to get out on the sidelines and support all the teams and cheer on all the efforts of the players, mums, dads, friends and coaches. Footy is great for fitness, mental health, teamwork, focus and passion. We love it all - good luck guys.

Here at Wax and Beans we believe that sharing is caring. So every week we'll be picking one album to share with you awesome people. This week's album is. . . .

Help - Warchild Compilation

Help - Warchild is back in stock and has been reissued to celebrate its 25 year anniversary. This double LP includes a plethora of iconic artists who recorded tracks to help millions of children in war-torn areas of the world. An incredible album that still now, all these years on, saves lives.

Record Of The Year . . . . . . so far!

Here, we invite one of our incredibly loyal band of customers to nominate a record that has really made their year. This week, John Banks shares his favourite album of 2020 so far.

"Ist Ist: ARCHITECTURE

Difficult, very difficult choice. In a year of Idles, Metallica, Doves etc….

A local band; seen countless times, in various venues, took their time in releasing their first album in May.

The album combines ten songs to be enjoyed as a whole, from the unsettling opening single note of ‘Wolves’ through new and reworked old (Silence, Nights Arm), to ‘Slowly We Escape’ split into its two definitive parts. This vinyl rewards repeat plays, peeling away more and more at each listen.

Standout track, for me, is ‘Under Your Skin’, with THAT filthy bass line."

Check it out for yourself – you will not be disappointed!
